One of the most common mistakes a businessowner can make is neglecting proper inspection and testing of fire extinguishers. United Fire Protection offers hydrostatic testing within our fire extinguisher services, so you can comply with local and state fire safety codes. A visual check is often not enough to determine whether your fire extinguishers are functioning. If your property’s fire extinguishers have gone more than five years without hydrostatic testing, you could be in violation of fire safety codes.
Family-owned and -operated since 1994, United Fire Protection has been the premier fire protection service provider of Orlando, Tampa, and Central Florida. We are state-licensed and experts in our field. If your property needs to be brought up to code, give us a call at (407) 218-8348 or contact us online today!
Should I Invest in Hydrostatic Testing?
Simple answer: It’s illegal not to. The DOT requires, in general, hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers every five years. Dry chemical and Halon fire extinguishers must be tested every 12 years. The test exposes the cylinder, shell, and hose assembly to high pressures, ensuring your extinguishers are safe and compliant with Florida Fire Prevention Code.
Visually inspecting a fire extinguisher is not enough to ensure it will operate safely or at all when you need it. Over time, workplace conditions and normal handling can impair a canister’s structural integrity, causing it to malfunction or burst unexpectedly. Hydro-testing helps to prevent this. These are the types of fire extinguishers that your business might have on site that will need to be tested:
- ABC fire extinguishers
- CO2 fire extinguishers
- Wet chemical fire extinguishers
- Halon fire extinguishers
- Halotron fire extinguishers
Our licensed hydrostatic cylinder testing facility can determine your fire extinguishers’ functionality, so that you can remain code-compliant. If no emergency should occur, at worst you’d receive a slap on the wrist and fines for not being up to code. However, if a fire starts, you would be putting your employees and patrons in danger.
